Heka Ceiling island Oblak
Oblak is a horizontally suspended acoustic island that floats above a work group or a meeting table. The panel of 24 mm felt hangs 200 to 400 mm below the ceiling, and the air gap raises absorption considerably, above all in the mid frequencies, where the weight of speech lies.
We use islands when treating the whole ceiling is not possible or not necessary, because a few units cover exactly the area where the noise is made.
It is available in rectangular, square and circular shapes, in ten colours and in sizes by agreement. With the order we include a layout proposal based on the floor plan of the room.

Technical data — Oblak
Materials and construction
Material: 100% polyester (PET felt), with at least 60% recycled content from end-of-life plastic bottles according to supplier data. The panels are fully recyclable.
Density: 9 mm approximately 1,900 g/m², 12 mm approximately 2,400 g/m², 24 mm from 3,500 to 4,000 g/m².
Fire classification: EN 13501-1, class B-s1,d0 as confirmed by the supplier (for individual batches B-s2,d0 — the certificate for the particular batch is supplied with the delivery).
Emissions: OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and REACH, free of formaldehyde, low emissions of volatile organic compounds.
Thickness: 24 mm. Shapes: rectangle, square and circle; an organic shape to a drawing on request. Suspension: height-adjustable steel cables.
Acoustics and absorption
Suspended PET felt panel: αs 0.15 / 0.45 / 0.65 / 0.85 / 1.10 / 1.25 at 125, 250, 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 Hz, NRC 0.75.
For freely suspended elements, the equivalent absorption area Aobj in m² per unit to ISO 354 is stated, because the panel absorbs from both sides.
An honest note: with islands, the distance from the ceiling is decisive. A panel fixed tight against the ceiling loses precisely that part of the effect in the mid frequencies for which islands are used in the first place. The recommended distance is 200 to 400 mm; a smaller distance makes sense only when the room height dictates it.
The values given come from the data sheets of the PET felt, measured to ISO 354:2003 or ASTM C423-22 and classified to ISO 11654:1997. They apply to material of this thickness in the installation described. For a specific room we prepare a reverberation time calculation based on the floor plan.
Installation
A suspension kit with height-adjustable steel cables comes with every island.
Fixing: into a structural ceiling or into a suitable load-bearing substructure. Before installing, check the load capacity and the position in relation to lighting and ventilation.
Distance from the ceiling: we recommend 200 to 400 mm. Position the island so that on the floor plan it covers the area of the table or the work group, not a circulation route.
Where several islands share a room, plan a spacing that matches the lighting grid, otherwise the shadows fall unevenly.
Care and cleaning
In normal use the felt needs no special care. Vacuum it regularly with an upholstery nozzle or clean it with a soft brush, roughly twice a year.
Remove individual stains with a slightly damp cloth and a mild detergent, then let the surface dry in the air. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents, solvents or steam cleaners.
A damaged panel can be replaced on its own, so the pattern does not have to be renewed as a whole.
In tall spaces the islands are usually cleaned once a year by the cleaning contractor with a lifting platform.
Delivery and lead times
Standard sizes: production and delivery 2 to 3 weeks.
Made to measure: 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the size of the order.
Delivery: Slovenia and the EU with our own vehicles or through a forwarder. For larger projects we agree floor-by-floor delivery and an installation schedule.
Returns: 14 days for standard products, in line with the law. Made-to-measure products are excluded.

Acoustics are decided at the design stage, not when the space is handed over. To architects and specifiers we send data sheets, an absorption calculation for the actual floor plan and drawings to place into the project.

Frequently asked questions
How far below the ceiling should the island hang?
We recommend 200 to 400 mm. It is the air gap between the panel and the ceiling that raises absorption in the mid frequencies considerably.
How many islands do I need?
For a meeting room, one island that covers the table on the floor plan is usually enough. In an open-plan office, reckon on one per work group. For a more precise proposal, send us the floor plan.
Is the circular shape less effective?
No. The effect is set by the area, not by the shape. We choose the circle when it sits better with the table or the light fitting beneath it.
Can I order an organic shape to a drawing?
Yes, on request. We confirm the shape and the price on the basis of the drawing, because both affect the cutting and the waste.
Does an island obstruct the sprinkler system?
It can, which is why the position has to be coordinated with the fire safety design. On projects we check this before production.
How are the islands cleaned?

What you get besides the product
Acoustics are a project, not an item on a list. So along with the panels you get a calculation, samples and someone to talk to who also makes the product.
Our own production
Cutting to size, edge finishing and final work are carried out in the Hit Preless plant in Medvode, and the felt comes from suppliers we have vetted. That is why a custom size is the rule, not the exception.
Recycled PET felt
The material is made of recycled polyester, free of formaldehyde and low in emissions of volatile compounds. At the end of its life it is recyclable.
Honest numbers
We publish absorption both without an air gap and with one. The difference between the two classes is made by the installation, not by an advertising figure.

Heka Interior is a brand of the company Hit Preless from Medvode. In the same plant where furniture made to measure for offices and hotels is produced, we also make acoustic panelling. That is why special sizes, lengths and versions are feasible even in small batches.
