Which fabrics and materials are available for Heka chairs?
Heka offers 13 lines of upholstery fabrics plus additional materials for personalising seating. Fabrics include versatile classics (Bondai, Bora Plain), easy-clean Aquaclean fabrics (Nordic, Carabu, Bull), structured and microfibre options (One, Enjoy New Lux, Glow, Austin) and leather-look materials (Tundra, natural leather). For desks and counters we offer EGGER decors and HPL laminates. You can see every line on the materials page.
How durable are the fabrics in terms of abrasion (Martindale)?
Durability is measured in Martindale cycles. The Heka palette ranges from about 50,000 cycles (Glow) to 250,000 cycles (Carabu). Bora Plain reaches 120,000 cycles and is one of the most robust fabrics, while Nordic and Bull reach 200,000 cycles. For offices and public spaces we recommend fabrics with at least 100,000 cycles, which ensures years of use without visible wear.
- Carabu: 250,000 cycles (highest durability)
- Nordic and Bull: 200,000 cycles
- Tundra (artificial leather): 150,000 cycles
- Bondai and Puma: 100,000 cycles
How do I maintain and clean upholstered chairs?
Maintenance depends on the fabric. The Aquaclean lines (Nordic, Carabu, Bull) remove most stains with just water and a cloth, no detergent needed. Fabrics such as Bondai and Glow have a water-repellent finish for easier cleaning. Natural leather is cared for with dedicated leather products. We supply care instructions with every material, and the most practical choices for everyday use are the Aquaclean fabrics.
What is the difference between mesh and upholstery?
A mesh backrest is breathable and conforms to the back, making it well suited to long sitting and warmer rooms because it allows air to circulate. An upholstered backrest offers a softer feel, warmth and a wide choice of colours and textures. Many Heka models combine a mesh back with an upholstered seat. The easiest way to feel the difference is to try the chair in practice via our free trial.
Can I choose colours and add a company logo?
Yes. Heka allows full personalisation: you choose from the colours of each fabric (3 to 37 shades per line), frame and base colours, and the option to embroider or print a company logo. This is especially popular when furnishing offices that want a consistent corporate look. Heka has equipped over 1,200 workstations at NLB, and references also include Triglav and Volvo.
Are the fabrics certified and suitable for healthcare and childcare?
Yes. Several lines carry the OEKO-TEX certificate (Bull, Enjoy New Lux, Glow, Austin), confirming the material is free of harmful substances. The Bull fabric is produced PFC-free, making it suitable for kindergartens, schools and healthcare facilities. Aquaclean fabrics allow hygienic cleaning with water, which is a major advantage in such environments.
Which materials do you recommend for hotels and public spaces?
For high-traffic spaces we recommend the most durable fabrics: Carabu (250,000 cycles), Nordic and Bull (200,000 cycles) and Bora Plain (120,000 cycles, one of the most robust). The structural fabric Austin (400 g/m², OEKO-TEX) is developed specifically for hotels and public spaces. As the brand of Hit Preless, which has made furniture in Slovenia since 1986, we can match the material to the project's requirements.
How do I choose the right material without risk?
The best approach is to test the material and chair in your own environment. Heka offers a free 7-day trial of a chair at your workplace, so you can assess comfort, fabric and appearance at ease. With our own production, logistics and installation, we advise you on durability, maintenance and colours. Start with the free trial or ask us via the contact page.
