Heka Desk screen Fokus
Fokus is a screen that turns a workstation in an open-plan space into a zone for concentration. It is made of PET felt, without a frame, with a softly rounded edge and a quiet surface that does not throw sound back at the person opposite.
It is placed head-on between two facing desks, or along the side as a shield from the walkway. Choose the fixing to suit the desk: a clamp for tops from 18 to 40 mm thick that needs no drilling, or a screw-on bracket for permanent mounting.
The screen reduces visual distraction and takes up part of the high speech frequencies from the neighbouring workstation, which in open-plan offices is the most common reason concentration is lost.

Technical data — Fokus
Materials and construction
Material: 100 % polyester (PET felt), with at least 60 % recycled content from used plastic bottles according to supplier data. The boards are fully recyclable.
Density: 9 mm approximately 1,900 g/m², 12 mm approximately 2,400 g/m², 24 mm from 3,500 to 4,000 g/m².
Fire classification: EN 13501-1, class B-s1,d0 as confirmed by the supplier (on individual batches B-s2,d0 — the certificate for that particular batch is enclosed with the delivery).
Emissions: OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and REACH, free of formaldehyde, low emissions of volatile organic compounds.
Thicknesses: 12 and 24 mm. Edge: softly rounded, frameless. Fixing: steel clamp for desk tops of 18 to 40 mm, or a screw-on bracket.
Acoustics and absorption
12 mm screen (ISO 354:2003): αs 0.00 / 0.05 / 0.22 / 0.49 / 0.71 / 0.94 at 125, 250, 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 Hz. That gives αw 0.25, class E, and NRC 0.40.
24 mm screen (ASTM C423-22): αs 0.25 / 0.45 / 0.88 / 1.06 / 0.85 / 0.97, NRC 0.80.
An honest caveat: a desk screen is above all an acoustic barrier and an absorber of the high speech frequencies. It will not calm a whole room and it is no substitute for wall or ceiling acoustics. Height above the desk is what decides: below 400 mm the sound simply jumps over the edge and there is almost no effect. It works best combined with ceiling baffles or ceiling islands above the work group.
The values stated come from the data sheets for the PET felt, measured to ISO 354:2003 or ASTM C423-22 and classified to ISO 11654:1997. They apply to this material thickness with the installation described. For a specific room we prepare a reverberation time calculation based on the floor plan.
Installation
Clamp for desk tops of 18 to 40 mm: you tighten it without drilling, and a pair of clamps is supplied with the screen. Suitable for height-adjustable desks as well.
Screw-on bracket: permanent mounting with screws into the desk top. Choose it for fixed workstations and for screens wider than 1600 mm.
Head-on position: between two facing desks. Side position: along the edge of the desk towards the walkway or the neighbouring workstation. Please state the position when ordering.
On height-adjustable desks, mount the screen so that at the highest setting it does not block the monitor of the colleague opposite.
Care and cleaning
In normal use the felt needs no special care. Vacuum it regularly with an upholstery nozzle or clean it with a soft brush, roughly twice a year.
Remove individual marks with a slightly damp cloth and a mild detergent, then let the surface air-dry. Do not use aggressive cleaners, solvents or steam cleaners.
A damaged panel can be replaced on its own, so the whole layout does not have to be redone.
Delivery and lead times
Standard sizes: production and delivery 2 to 3 weeks.
Made to measure: 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the size of the order.
Delivery: Slovenia and the EU with our own vehicles or through a forwarder. For larger projects we agree on floor-by-floor delivery and an installation schedule.
Returns: 14 days for standard products in line with the law. Made-to-measure products are excluded.

Acoustics are decided at the design stage, not at the handover of the space. To architects and specifiers we send data sheets, an absorption calculation for the actual floor plan and drawings to place into the project.

Frequently asked questions
What screen height do I need?
We recommend at least 400 mm above the desk surface, otherwise sound and sight simply jump over the edge. For video calls and phone calls a height of 650 mm makes sense.
Does the clamp hold on a height-adjustable desk?
Yes, the clamp grips tops from 18 to 40 mm thick, which covers the tops of height-adjustable desks too. On models with a reinforcement under the top, check that at least 60 mm of the edge is clear.
Does the screen really reduce noise?
It reduces the direct reflection and part of the high speech frequencies from the neighbouring desk, and above all it breaks eye contact, which for concentration often matters more. A measurable drop in the reverberation time of the room also calls for wall or ceiling acoustics.
Can I pin anything to the screen?
Yes. The felt surface holds pins, so you can use the screen as a small pinboard. Do not hang heavier objects on it, as they put a load on the clamp.
Which thickness should I choose?
12 mm is enough when the aim is visual separation and calming the highest frequencies. Choose 24 mm in rooms with a lot of telephone conversations, because it covers more of the speech range.
Do you supply screens made to measure?

What you get besides the product
Acoustics are a project, not a catalogue item. That is why, along with the panels, you get a calculation, samples and someone to talk to who also manufactures the product.
Our own production
Cutting, edge finishing and final work are carried out in the Hit Preless production facility in Medvode, and the felt comes from suppliers we have vetted. That is why a custom size is the rule here, not the exception.
Recycled PET felt
The material is made from recycled polyester, free of formaldehyde and low in emissions of volatile compounds. At the end of its service life it is recyclable.
Honest figures
We publish the absorption both without an air gap and with one. The difference between the two classes is made by the installation, not by an advertising figure.

Heka Interior is a brand of Hit Preless, a company based in Medvode. In the same production facility where bespoke furniture for offices and hotels is made, we also produce acoustic panelling. That is why special sizes, lengths and versions are feasible even in small batches.
