Custom office furniture is equipment built to the exact dimensions, materials, colors and function of your space, rather than to a catalog of standard sizes. For companies it pays off because it makes use of every square meter, unifies the look with brand colors and logos, and removes the compromises that come with mass-produced furniture. Because at Heka Interior we develop and manufacture furniture in our own factory in Medvode, the order goes straight from plan to production, with no chain of intermediaries.
What custom office furniture means
Custom furniture means the product is created around your needs, not the other way around. Instead of adapting your space to a catalog offering, we adapt the dimensions, materials and layout to the given space, the number of employees and the way you work. This is the difference between an "approximate fit" and equipment that sits against walls, niches and columns without any gaps. In doing so, we maintain the ergonomic standards that apply to mass-produced items and add the adjustments that serial production does not offer.
The approach makes sense for open-space offices, meeting rooms, receptions and management areas, where both functionality and the impression the space leaves on employees and visitors matter. For general space planning, you can also read our guide on how to furnish an office.
Why does custom office furniture pay off?
Custom-made furniture pays off because it reduces wasted space, extends the lifespan of the equipment and unifies the brand. A standard desk that is 20 cm too short for a niche leaves an unusable gap; a custom desk fills that niche and adds work surface. Throughout the entire project you work with a single partner, which means less coordination, fewer errors at the handoff between suppliers, and clear responsibility for the result.
Durability also matters in the long run. Because we control the choice of materials and the manufacturing, we select components that withstand everyday office use, and we provide a 3-year warranty. Chairs can also be tested in practice before deciding, through a 7-day free trial, which is often not possible with a serial purchase via a reseller.
Everything that can be customized
Customization is not just color. With custom furniture you can tailor almost every visible and functional feature of the product to suit the space and the brand.
- Measurements and dimensions: the length, width and height of desks, the depth of cabinets, the length of reception counters, and modular configurations for non-standard floor plans.
- Materials and decors: a choice of different boards, wood decors, laminates and edge banding, matched to the architecture of the space.
- Fabrics: upholstery for seats and acoustic elements in various qualities and colors, from standard to more durable contract fabrics.
- Colors: colors of frames, bases, carcasses and fronts, matched to the company's corporate visual identity.
- Logos and branding: the company logo on reception counters, partitions or seats for a consistent impression in customer-facing areas.
Customization makes sense across the entire range, from ergonomic office chairs and height-adjustable desks to acoustic solutions that reduce noise in open-plan offices.
How does the custom production process work?
The custom process runs in four steps: consulting, 2D and 3D plan, in-house production, and delivery with installation. First we review the space, the way you work and the budget together with you, then we prepare a floor plan and visualization that you approve before production. Production follows in our factory in Medvode, and finally we deliver and install the furniture on site. The entire project is led by a single partner, so coordination is simple and deadlines are clear.
1. Consulting and needs analysis
In the first step we determine how many workstations you need, what the working style is (focused work, team collaboration, receiving clients) and what the spatial and budget frameworks are. Based on this, we propose furniture typologies and materials.
2. 2D and 3D plan
We prepare a layout floor plan and a 3D visualization so you can see the space before the furniture is made. Here we align the dimensions, decors, fabrics and colors, and make adjustments as needed until the plan meets expectations.
3. In-house production in Medvode
The approved plan goes into our production with advanced CNC technologies. Because manufacturing is done in-house, we control quality and deadlines and produce non-standard pieces that the serial offering does not cover.
4. Delivery and installation
We deliver the furniture with our own logistics and install it on site, so we hand over the space ready for use. After handover, we remain available for after-sales support and warranty matters.
Why in-house production is better than a reseller
A reseller sells what is in its catalog and is tied to external suppliers, lead times and the limitations of their products. We design and manufacture furniture ourselves, so we can change dimensions, materials or a detail without negotiating with a chain of external partners. This shortens the path from idea to product and reduces the risk of errors at the handoffs between intermediaries.
The second advantage is accountability. When something goes wrong with a reseller, responsibility is often shifted between the retailer and the manufacturer. With in-house production there is one responsible address, from consulting to warranty. This is also why demanding projects trust us, such as NLB (1,200+ workstations), Triglav, Volvo and projects for hotel brands of the Marriott level. Our brand operates under the company Hit Preless, which has had manufacturing roots since 1986.
Typologies of custom office furniture
Custom furniture has the greatest impact where standard sizes are not enough or where the space represents the brand. In practice, it most often pays off for the following typologies.
- Receptions: reception counters built to the dimensions of the space and with a built-in logo leave a first impression on visitors. More in the reception furniture collection.
- Meeting rooms: tables of exactly the right length for the number of seats, matched with conference chairs and the acoustics of the space.
- Open space: modular workstations and height-adjustable desks that make use of the floor plan and allow flexible rearrangement.
- Management offices: representative desks, cabinets and executive chairs that reflect the company's standing.
- Waiting areas and halls: robust seating from the chairs for waiting areas and halls collection, adapted to the flow of people.
Standard office furniture vs custom
The comparison below summarizes when serial equipment is sufficient and when custom production pays off.
| Feature | Standard furniture | Custom furniture |
|---|---|---|
| Dimensions | Fixed catalog sizes | Exactly to the space and niches |
| Materials and decors | Limited selection | Choice of boards, decors, edges |
| Fabrics and colors | Default combinations | Matched to the visual identity |
| Brand logo | Usually not possible | Built into counters and partitions |
| Use of space | Often wasted space | Maximum utilization |
| Accountability | Shared (retailer, manufacturer) | One partner from plan to installation |
| Lead time | Depends on supplier stock | Under our own production control |

Frequently asked questions
What is custom office furniture?
Custom office furniture is equipment made to your dimensions, materials, colors and function, not to standard catalog sizes. You can tailor the dimensions of desks and cabinets, decors, fabrics, frame colors and the integration of the company logo. The aim is for the furniture to fit the space without any gaps and to present the company's brand consistently.
Is custom office furniture more expensive than standard?
Custom furniture is not necessarily more expensive, and above all it offers different value for every euro invested. Because it makes use of the entire space, extends the lifespan of the equipment and is made right the first time, it often pays off more than the recurring fixes of compromise solutions. Because we manufacture in-house without intermediaries, the price is also more transparent and manageable.
How long does it take to make custom furniture?
The deadline depends on the scope of the project and the chosen materials, but thanks to in-house production we control it ourselves and align it at the start. After the 2D and 3D plan is approved, we give you a realistic timeframe for production, delivery and installation. For in-stock items, delivery can be within a few days, while for custom projects it follows the agreed schedule.
Can you add the company logo to the furniture?
Yes, the company logo can be built into reception counters, partitions and, if needed, seats, and matched to the colors of the corporate visual identity. This is precisely why custom furniture is a common choice for receptions and areas where a company receives clients. The logo and color matching are agreed upon during the 2D and 3D plan stage, before production.
Who can order custom office furniture?
Custom furniture is ordered by companies of all sizes, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and hotels and hospitality venues. It makes sense both for furnishing a single office and for comprehensive projects with several hundred workstations. With each client we start with consulting, so that we adapt the solution to the budget and the purpose of the space.
Is it possible to test the chairs before purchase?
Yes, office chairs can be tested as part of a 7-day free trial, so you can assess comfort and ergonomics in practice. This way you avoid the risk of buying blind, which is often not possible with a serial purchase via a reseller. We also offer a 3-year warranty on our products.
